Our Relationship with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association

We are an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (Association). The Association governs the business practices of approximately 42 independent plans located nationwide and in Puerto Rico.

We all rely on the Association to be our collective voice in the federal and state legislatures with the purpose of bringing meaningful changes and advances to the U.S. health care financing and delivery system.

Collectively, Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans provide health care coverage for 88.7 million - or more than one in three - Americans.¹
