Cultural Competence and Diversity at BCBSF

Many Cultures, One Goal: Your Health

Florida is one of the most diverse states in the nation. It has the largest population of people over the age of 65 - which will continue to grow as baby boomers retire and seek the pleasures of the Sunshine State. Our state's economic engine is fueled by small businesses, with over 20 percent of those businesses owned by Hispanics and African Americans. Nearly one in 10 of all foreign-born residents in the United States live in Florida. And the state's growing multicultural communities, among them African American, Black Caribbean, Hispanic, Asian and Native American, represent nearly 40 percent of Florida's population.

BCBSF has the privilege of insuring and servicing more than four million Floridians - each with a unique combination of characteristics, including gender, age, ethnicity, education, religion, income, family status and experiences. As Florida's growing population continues to change, we are committed to expanding our cultural competence to understand and address the varied perspectives and health needs of all communities.
